This family, two busy professionals with three kids, loved most parts of their home and truly adored their neighborhood, but, as a family of five - really needed more livable space. They wanted a place for guests to stay that didn’t involve moving the kids out of their rooms and disrupting their lives, office space for working from home, and an inviting family room that would serve for both cozy, family movie nights as well a place the kids would want to hang out with their friends.
The old basement was unpleasant to be in and had no room for storage or cabinets, and the unfinished portion was a disorganized, mish-mash catch-all space they were just plain tired of.
Bluestem helped this family transform their basement into a welcoming, bright multipurpose space. The new basement now serves as a cozy place for family time, a hangout area for the teenagers and their friends, can accommodate larger groups for social gatherings, contains an office space, guest area and laundry area, and - has plenty of room for organization and storage. The new basement also includes a bright, sunny area for morning yoga and working out, and, as added bonuses, there's a bathroom and beverage cooler.
In the office area, the desk can be moved up creating an open space for a bed to go and leaving nightstand space on both sides.
This remodel is an excellent example of doing multiple projects in the house at once to minimize disruption and maximize efficiency. The homeowners in this St. Louis Park home had Bluestem remodel their basement and also do work outside the home, both in the back yard and the front of the house.
