Project Details
Once a simple St. Louis Park ranch house, this Minnesota home was reimagined into a contemporary, elegant, east-coast farmhouse. A 2nd-story addition transformed the house into a spacious, welcoming family home – perfect for a large family, entertaining, and hosting guests.
After the initial home addition, much of the original remodeling project was unfortunately put on hold, due to economic conditions and the housing market. The kitchen, pantry and family room were put together quickly – the initial design and full vision put on hold. The basement of the home was finished and remodeled in 2023. Then, in 2024, the final part of the transformation was actualized: the kitchen remodel!
The renovation of the kitchen, along with great room, completed the original project – the last pieces of the puzzle enabling this entire home to have great function and an integrated, cohesive look. The full farmhouse kitchen remodel project included updates to the butler pantry and walk-in kitchen pantry, family room/great room updates, including the addition of a fireplace, and small finishing touches throughout the main level.
These homeowners were thrilled to carry out their initial vision and finally complete the original design, enabling the entire main level of the home to look and feel as it it was remodeled and renovated all at once.
New Kitchen Renovation Details
The new kitchen features custom new cabinetry, a large island and updated countertops.
The kitchen aesthetic is fairly traditional, but without being stuffy, and fits the vision for the rest of the spaces: functional and elegant, modern and warm – and fit for a family.
Remodeled Kitchen Features, Details & Function
- A big central island – meant to harken to a traditional working kitchen
- Wide views – great gathering places
- The kitchen as “the center of the home” – but still separated from the formal spaces of the home
- A butler pantry, so the hardworking new kitchen can serve to prepare food, but then a nice meal can be enjoyed in the formal family room – the mess and the dishes separated and out of site
- Better connection and flow into the family room/great room area, now with a cohesive look and feel
- New kitchen backsplash – elegant and practical. (honed granite)
- The pantry was updated with improved storage solutions, the color updated to fit the rest of the new and previous spaces.
- Crisp, tight details added throughout, such as an extra piece to the right of the stove. This extra detail piece creates a nicely finished end for a touch of refined elegance on the open corner.
- The new custom cabinetry creates a warm and homey look and feel, while fitting with the clean and crisp overall aesthetic
- The blue on the island anchors the room with a touch of color, creating a pop of liveliness while still maintaining the refined look.
- The new fireplace make the family room even cozier – perfect for cold evenings to sit and read a book or converse with family or friends!
- The change of colors from the old kitchen brought unity to the main floor – now there is one voice in the entire main level, down to the flooring.
- New countertops
- New surfaces – durable and elegant
Both the features and quality of materials in the updated spaces (kitchen, pantries, family room) now reflect the rest of the house, with all primary living spaces feeling cohesive, fresh and unified.
While washing dishes, one can now gaze out the window at the beautiful backyard patio and garden, and still feel connected to anything happening in the family room.
These homeowners adore their spacious St. Louis Park farmhouse home, and couldn’t be happier to have their vision complete and their home look and work as they always wanted and hoped for it to.
