Minnetonka Home Addition: A Cozy Cottage House Expanded

These homeowners adored their cozy, “cottage-like” home with it’s gorgeous hardwood floors and it’s 3/4-acre yard. Unfortunately, there was no access from their house to the beautiful backyard they’d spent decades cultivating and new patio. They were tired of walking guests through the garage to get there, and dreamt of being able to entertain and easily carry the conversations (and hors d’oeuvres!) right outside. They longed for guest accommodations to host family overnight, a garage that was large enough to park their cars inside (and protect car engines from mice nests!), and a place for hanging coats that wasn’t just hooks along the basement staircase.

After the addition and remodel, these homeowners now have a bright and cozy sunroom in place of the old and tiny garage, a brand new bathroom, and a spacious two-car garage — connected by a new mudroom (with heated floors). The new sunroom space is ideal for accommodating overnight guests, sitting in the sunshine admiring the garden, or simply relaxing by the fireplace with a good book. The large sliding doors open to the patio – perfect for carrying dinner outside or letting in some fresh air!
