Project Details

The whole house renovation of this Golden Valley Mid Century home gave the opportunity to elevate the design of three bathrooms. In each of them, different style options were explored while still keeping the design voice of the home.

See below for photos of the three bathrooms, each re-envisioned with their own MCM design style.

The MidCentury Modern Master Bathroom

The owner’s bathroom in this Golden Valley home had to combine sink, bath and closet functions into one area.

The console sink and horizontal high window employ the liner elements, typical of the Mid Century Modern style. Floating mirrors allow light to enter and give a layered look that adds depth to the room.  The closet and bath flank the sink area, improving the daily function for a couple. In the bath, subtle tile elements break the plane of the custom glass shower wall providing a visual cohesion for the room. A tub was foregone for the generous, comfortable shower.

The Powder Room

The powder room design was a delicate balance of bold and subtle design elements.

Horizontal lines are again featured in the floating vanity with slab-like construction. The wavy-textured wall treatment gives a place for scattered light to play and provides fun visual interest. A combination of dark colors and simple whites keep the small room feeling gracious. The brass sink and jewel pendants fit into the same design style, also referencing MCM design.

The Basement Bathroom

In the basement bathroom, the homeowners decided to play with textures, colors and patterns while also keeping the small guest bath on budget.

The playful tile pattern was a great way to use standard materials while creating a fully custom look. The final design style references the asymmetrical geometric patterns so often found in mid century design. A simple, narrow vanity and mirror fit the limited space perfectly. Even though the bathroom has no windows, the colors and lighting make it inviting and cheery.

The Final Multi-Bathroom Design Style

Using a variety of mid century design elements – each  appropriate for each bathroom – ended up the ideal solution for these homeowners. It ensured both the aesthetic and practical needs of the project were met, while allowing the homeowner to have fun with different design styles in their home.
