The remodeled home tour is free, self-guided, and features a variety of projects around the Twin Cities Metro area.

Bluestem will be showcasing a recently-completed home addition on this year’s tour.

Bluestem’s Minnetonka Home Addition Project

These homeowners loved their cozy, “cottage-like” home with gorgeous wood floors and 3/4-acre yard. Yet, there was no access to their beautiful backyard and new patio from the house, and they were tired of walking guests through the garage to get there. They dreamt of being able to entertain and easily carry the conversations (and hors d’oeuvres!) right outside. They also longed for guest accommodations to host family overnight, a garage large enough to park their cars in (and protect car engines from mice nests!), and a place to hang coats – that wasn’t just hooks along the basement stairs.

After the remodel, these homeowners now have a bright and cozy sunroom in place of the old garage, a new bathroom, and a spacious two-car garage connected via a new mudroom. The new sunroom space is ideal for overnight guests, sitting in the sun admiring their garden, or relaxing by the fireplace with a good book. The large sliding doors open up to the patio – perfect for carrying dinner outside or letting in fresh air.

This remodel is a great example of a home addition that successfully creates a new roofline to complement both the existing scale and style of the home.

The MSP Home Tour celebrates remodeled homes that have been remodeled by their owners, often with the help of a professional. The tour invites you inside the homes of real people to be inspired and get to know the neighborhoods and communities that make up our vibrant metro area.

- Projects range from small to large, from budget conscious to luxury.
- Homes that have sustainability improvements impacting energy consumption, water use, thermal comfort, energy production, and occupant health are highlighted.
- Historical and accessibility projects are highlighted.
- Homeowners are typically present for the tour and are available to talk about their experience, inspiration, and motivation.

Topic Talks (seminars and workshops) take place at a variety of locations over the two day tour, where professionals share their knowledge of remodeling, design, and architecture with the community. This tour is presented by the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI).
